Think about how great it would be to go out to the garden and gather your own tasty herbs to give your dishes a whole new world of flavors. Join Chef Shari Mereness on June 14 at 2 p.m. for a presentation on growing and cooking with herbs at the South Shore Gallery, 447 Apollo Beach Blvd.

For many, the prospect of starting and maintaining an herb garden seems daunting. Fortunately, you don't need a green thumb and acres of land to start one. Herbs require little space; even a windowsill will do. And they don't demand a lot of time or attention. With minimal effort, you can have a perpetual supply of flavorful herbs to enhance your kitchen and home. Chef Shari will demonstrate how easy it is to plant container herb gardens.

A well-rounded herb garden can be a cook's best friend. Chef Shari also will prepare some of her favorite herb dishes, perfect for hot summer days.
