SUN CITY CENTER - The Pelican Players will celebrate their 25th Birthday Bash at the annual Follies - The Calendar at 7 p.m. Saturday and at 1:30 and 7 p.m. Sunday at the Borini Theatre, 1900 Clubhouse Drive.

When the Pelican Players first performed the Follies 25 years ago, the group was able to support one scholarship per year for an East Bay High School senior heading to college to study the arts. Now there are 22 student recipients from East Bay, Lennard and Riverview high schools. Each receives $1,000 per semester for four years from the group.

Performing at this year's Follies will be the Silver Tappers, the Sunsations, the Time Steppers, Cloggers and East Bay High School's show choir, Sounds of Time. Comedian John Cortese will tickle some funny bones. Al Spatola, Mal Gibson, Brenda Raysbrook, Ron Leomnbruno, Paul Hassall, Mary K. Merrill, Vince Robbio, Carol Geary, Ed Fleming, Bill Barker and Troy Coman will sing.

For tickets, which cost $11 each, call (813) 633-1753.

Lenten Lunches Feature Speaker
SUN CITY CENTER - Lenten Lunch programs will be offered from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for five consecutive Wednesdays in Creason Hall at the United Methodist Church of Sun City Center, 1210 Del Webb Blvd.

The programs will be held today, March 11, 18 and 25 and April 1.

Show Dogs To Strut Their Stuff
SUN CITY CENTER - Dogs will plow through their paces at the seventh annual Dog Show sponsored by the Sun City Center Dog Owners Group - a.k.a. D.O.G. - beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday at Community Hall, 1910 S. Pebble Beach Blvd.

Judging categories will include Best Trained, Best Appearance and Best of Show. The four-footed contestants will be divided by weight and size - small, medium and large - instead of breed.

Although some of these stellar models of man's best friend will be purebreds with pedigrees, others will belong to those "rare mixes of breeds known politely as mutts," said Marion Nowalk, D.O.G. publicity chairwoman.

Many of the dogs' mugs may be recognizable from "Home Wanted" lists at the Critter Adoption and Rescue Effort. Lucky ones have been adopted and may make their first public appearances at this show.

Judges Ann Marie Leblanc, Community Association director; Ilona Merritt, president of the Sun City Center Computer Club; and Laurie Clemency, president of the Critter Adoption and Rescue Effort, will have a doggone time choosing the best-dressed pooches in the costume category.

The costume event tends to "bring down the house as the entrants and sometimes their owners dress up to be funny, outrageous, absurd or very serious," Nowalk said.

Refreshments will be available at The-Dog-Ate-It bake sale, and keepsake photos will be snapped at a portrait gallery.

For those who want to take one of the adorable pets home with them, there will be adoptable dogs from CARE.

Tickets are $3 at the door.
