GIBSONTON - An area day care center was recently recognized for going above and beyond in its work with the community's children.
Kids 'R' Kids of Southshore has earned APPLE accreditation status.
"We're very proud," said Carrie Elwell, owner. "This is a prestigious honor for us."
The Accredited Professional Preschool Learning Environment status is awarded by the Florida Association for Child Care Management to child care centers that voluntary comply with a higher standard of quality than is required by Florida law.
"To us, this means we have been recognized for taking the initiative and making the commitment to surpass the standards set by local and state licensing bodies," Elwell said.
The Gibsonton center opened in fall 2007 and presently has 270 kids - ranging in age from 6 weeks to 12 years - enrolled. There are more than 130 facilities nationally that have earned the APPLE accreditation.
Kids 'R' Kids will also sponsor a Kid's Area at the Ruskin Seafood Festival this weekend.
"We've made a daily commitment to provide the kind of care, attention and stimulating activities that our students require," Elwell said. "We're more than happy to honor that commitment."
