APOLLO BEACH - An area resident was recently recognized for three decades of contributions to the South Shore community.
Paula Sabo was the recipient of the Good Samaritan Award, presented by Lutheran Services of Florida in October.
"I was very surprised and I was very honored to receive this award for my work with the church," Sabo said.
Sabo has been an active member of Apollo Beach's Calvary Lutheran church since 1978. In those 31 years, Sabo occupied or was elected to almost every office within the church.
She also spearheaded the development of Calvary Lutheran's Community Cupboard, which provides food for more than 25,000 people each year.
Sabo has retired from any official position with the church but remains involved with the Community Cupboard and the Angel Attic, the church's thrift store.
"This award was presented in a dinner in Tampa, and I had about 25 people from the church there supporting me," Sabo said. "I was so happy to have them there, and I felt very blessed."
