WIMAUMA - The Hillsborough County Solid Waste Management Department has closed its Wimauma Community Collection Center at 16180 W. Lake Drive due to low usage.
The closing will save resources, officials said.
Residents may still take solid waste that is not permitted for curbside pick-up to the county's other community collection centers. This includes furniture, appliances, pieces of metal and normal, household construction debris.
Centers in the South Shore area that remain open are:
•South County Community Collection Center, 13000 U.S. 41 S., just north of Big Bend Road in Apollo Beach.
•Alderman Ford Community Collection Center, 9402 State Road 39 in Lithia
All community collection centers are open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Items also can be taken to the Southeast County Landfill at 15960 County Road 672 in Balm.
There is no charge for residents to use the centers, subject to certain limits, by presenting their current property tax bills showing their solid waste collection and disposal assessments to the onsite attendant.
