RUSKIN - Pooches and their owners are invited to a scary-good Halloween event in South Shore.
The inaugural Critter Adoption and Rescue Effort Boo-Bash will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the animal shelter's headquarters, 1528 27th St. S.E., Ruskin.
There will be a pumpkin carving contest, with entries by area businesses, and visitors will be able to vote for their favorite pumpkin face. The day also will feature, food, prizes and dog costume contests at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., to accommodate all the well-dressed pets expected to attend.
An off-leash play area will be provided so pet owners can bring their well-behaved dogs.
CARE is a nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter for abused and abandoned cats and dogs.
Shelter tours will be provided every 15 minutes during the event. Aussie Pet Mobile also will offer nail clippings for $8, and all proceeds from the event will benefit the homeless animals being housed at the all-volunteer shelter.
