Just odds and ends this week, folks. There's a hodgepodge of opportunities to help the community and your business.
I've signed up for the Great American Teach-In at Ruskin Elementary on Nov. 18, and I urge some of you to follow my lead. Lots of South Shore kids would like to know what you do, and they need to hear how staying in school leads to success. You can donate as little or as much of your time as you want, and you can choose the school, maybe even the one your kids go to.
Anyway, here's a rundown on the e-mails I received this week:
Looking for a free way to promote your business? The deadline is 5 p.m. today for the Ruskin Memorial VFW Post 6287, which will host its annual Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 14 through downtown Ruskin along U.S. 41. Join the post for this patriotic, fun-filled event, which will include an after-parade music, food and awards presentation ceremony. You don't have to do anything fancy. Make a banner and walk with your folks or throw some balloons from the company van and ride with the entourage of floats and marching bands. Call Shirley May at (813) 645-3410 or send an e-mail to aabil ity1@verizon.net. Be there or be square.
S&S Taco/Pizzas & Stuff, 10664 U.S. 301 S. in Riverview recently hosted a ribbon- cutting ceremony and announced it is now wired for WiFi. Grab your laptop and head on over. Call Mike Self at (813) 677-8226.
Area businesses are encouraged to help the county park at 7807 Capitano St. in Riverview, which has had two burglaries during the past four months. Items stolen were PlayStation2, PlayStation3 and Wii gaming units, more than 20 games and a flat-screen television - all of which were utilized on a daily basis by children participating in the park's after-school program. Many of the items were replaced after the first theft only to be stolen a second time. Since the second burglary, security measures have been put in place in hopes of preventing a third incident. Donations to support this low-cost program for children ages 5 to 15 may be made by calling Sandy Holmes at (813) 671-7617 or Hillsborough County Sheriff's Deputy Cliff Fletcher at (813) 672-7822.
Lennard High still needs business professionals to speak during the 2009 Great American Teach-In on Nov. 18. If you can spare an hour or so to describe what you do and talk about the importance of staying in school, call Wilmarie Rios at (813) 641-5611, ext. 504.
BK Kustoms Inc. in Sun City Center, a home-based, promotional products and advertising specialties company, is celebrating its first anniversary in South Shore. To learn more about it, visit www.bkkustoms.com or call owner Barbara Kanoza at (813) 454-4658.
Sport Clips in Riverview, a franchise of Sports Clips Haircuts has partnered with the Veterans of Foreign Wars' Operation Uplink to provide free call days on Christmas Day and again on May 31. The shop is collecting donations for Help a Hero Call Home at the shop, 10469 Gibsonton Drive, Riverview. The salon will participate in the company's national Cut-A-Thon on Nov. 11 and donate $1 from every haircut service to Operation Uplink. The corporate goal is $125,000. Call Ramona Scharber at (813) 671-8775.
Don't miss the chance to publicize your company's news. Send me your buzz, and I'll put it to good use.
