WIMAUMA - The sounds of whirling pinwheels recently filled the air as Reddick Elementary School students celebrated the International Day of Peace.
Students, teachers and parents enjoyed a picnic, surrounded by the children's pinwheels, which students made in art class under the direction of Susan Turpyn, Reddick's art specialist.
The student body and staff also sang and performed sign language to "A Song of Peace."
The International Day of Peace is celebrated all over the world on Sept. 21.
The students at Reddick enjoyed learning and writing about what peace meant to them, while working with their classroom teachers and the school's writing resource teacher, Michelle Migliaro.
The children and their parents came together to share a picnic lunch, sing, dance and enjoy each other's company.
The Pinwheels for Peace picnic was topped off with cake provided by the school's cafeteria staff.
Ellen Kleinschmidt is teacher at Reddick Elementary and a former Hillsborough County Teacher of the Year.
