Mitchell at Celebration WHEN: Tonight, 7 NEED TO KNOW: The Mustangs (23-2-3) advance to the region final for the first time in the program's history, after falling in the region semifinals in 2009 (1-0 to Durant) and 2004 (4-1 to Gaither). ... This season, in which Mitchell rosters 17 seniors and starts 10, the team moved down from Class 6A to 4A and its two losses have come to district rival Pasco, early in the season, and 1-0 to Tampa Prep, a team that's advanced to the 2A region final. The Mustangs have three scoring threats: David Vasquez (a team-high 20 goals), and Jason Leslie and Alex Wegener, who both have 13 goals. Max Rockwell and Sean Maser run a good midfield - adding 19 and 13 assists, respectively - while defenseman Chris McVeigh anchors a solid defense that gave up just 20 goals this season. ... In the net, Josh Berres has put up 85 saves and 10 shutouts. ... Coach Oscar Ubillus felt his team started off sluggish in the region semifinal against Land O' Lakes, playing its worst first half all season, but knows if the team can get quick goals, that the rest of the team can keep the opponent at bay. ... Celebration (17-4) reaches the region final after beating Ocala Vanguard 2-1 and has given up only two goals in the playoffs.
