City Manager Steve Spina will recommend rejecting the bid submitted by a local veterinarian to take over animal control services in the city. The City Council is scheduled to vote today on a plan to privatize its animal control services. Veterinarian Melanie McGavern and local trapper Tim Wilcox, who submitted the only bid for the service, would charge $52,000 for the service. Their proposed cost is nearly 25 percent higher than the amount charged by Pasco County, and it would increase to $55,000 in the second year. ...more
