RIVERVIEW - An old pipeline threading through Riverview to link Mosaic Fertilizer's processing plant to its water source at Lithia Springs has been leaking and causing headaches for motorists, including three road closures in the past month. Water from the pipeline washed out part of the road base of Riverview Drive in early June, leading to a section between Dean Street and Albyar Avenue being closed for several days. ...more

I read Friday that City Pier Beach will be closed for at least a month to fill in the offshore dredge hole. The recent tragic drowning accident at this dredge hole has made this a notable priority. I never knew, and suspect many never knew of this hole. There is another 30-foot deep hole just south of the channel between Lake Jackson and Little Lake Jackson (on the Little Lake Jackson side.) ...more

A portion of Riverview Drive just east of Interstate 75 has been shut down and might remain closed to motorists for up to a month. Hillsborough County officials on Tuesday authorized an emergency closing to allow work crews to fix a leaking Mosaic Fertilizer water line. The leak has washed out part of the road between Dean Street and Albyar Avenue west of U.S. 301, and workers must rebuild the road along with the pipe, officials said. ...more

I read with interest the article by James J. Dean regarding the channel between Little Lake Jackson and Lake Jackson. Also, the article about the canal cleanup at Lake Istokpoga. Both of our local newspapers should interview residents of Erin Park, who live on the three canals to Little Lake Jackson, and also take pictures of the three canals, as two of them are literally "seas of grass." We haven't had our boats or pontoons out on either lake for almost two years. A lot of the boats and pontoons are sitting high and dry. It would cost each owner around $600 to have a crane come in and remove them. We have contacted local county officials several times, but all we get are words! Something needs to be done. ...more
