Back when he was a 16-year-old Durant High junior, Weston Gee nearly died when he was a passenger in a car that crashed into a pole. He broke his right femur and right pinky, had a head injury and went into a coma. He was in a wheelchair for seven months. The reason he survived, he said, is that he wore a seat belt. For the third time in three years, a small group of families has come together to deal with a serious car crash. For the second time, a crash has resulted in death. Joanna Chastain, a 2007 Durant High graduate and close friend of Katie Marchetti, was killed in a fiery crash about midnight Sunday. Chastain's passenger, Christopher Richards, 20, of Brandon, was also killed. Another passenger, Andrew Santilli of Valrico, was critically injured. ...more
