The spring solstice arrived a few days ago, and with it usually comes some of the best fishing of the year. Snook have already begun to move from winter quarters up river and from the mangrove backcountry out onto the flats. The big outgoing tides that snook fishermen like will occur early in the morning, before sunrise as the full moon begins to wane. Water temperature is still in the high 80s and clarity is not very good. The good news is that there seems to be plenty of bait on the flats but thus far the snook have not been very cooperative. ...more
