SEBRING — With the whole school assembled at the bus loop at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, something special had to be in store for the Woodlawn Elementary students and teachers. Cheers and applause erupted when they spotted a horse-drawn carriage with three special passengers – retiring teachers Carol Todd and Freda Hoffman and Assistant Principal Laura Waldon, who is departing to be principal of Fred Wild Elementary School. What has changed this school year with physical education? Students in K-5 public schools are required to take 150 minutes of physical education every week. There is not a requirement for middle school students, but schools are encouraged to provide 225 minutes of physical education per week. High school physical education has been reduced from 2.5 semesters - including one semester of health - to two semesters of physical education, with health integrated. ...more
